New Delhi, May 30: Bharat Arun, the former bowling coach of India, is set to oversee a 14-day specialized training program for elite male and female cricketers in Sri Lanka. Arun recently wrapped up his role as the fast-bowling coach for Kolkata Knight Riders during IPL 2025.
Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) announced on Friday that Arun's initiative aims to elevate the skills of fast bowlers in both junior and senior teams at the High-Performance Centre, starting June 2, where he will initially focus on the U19 national squad.
During his time in Sri Lanka, Arun will collaborate with the national men's and women's teams, the women's 'A' team, the U19 men's team, as well as coaches from the High-Performance Centre, provincial coaches, and coach educators.
According to SLC, Arun, who was Team India's bowling coach from 2014 to 2021, will conduct distinct strategy sessions for the men's red and white ball teams, engage in technical and skill training with fast bowlers, and facilitate video and performance analysis sessions for players and coaches. He will also simulate match scenarios to enhance players' game understanding.
This training camp precedes the men's team's upcoming home series against Bangladesh, while the women's team prepares for the Women's ODI World Cup scheduled later this year in India.
Since 2024, SLC has been inviting international coaches for short-term programs. Last year, they enlisted Zubin Bharucha, high-performance director of Rajasthan Royals, to enhance their batting techniques.
Recently, SLC also brought in R Sridhar, the former Indian fielding coach from 2014 to 2021, to conduct a thorough 10-day fielding program for their men's and women's emerging squads, premier club players, the national U19 team, and the women's 'A' side.
